Halloween Folk Artist
Jan Pierce
"Creating
unique Halloween Art treasures with a vintage flair"
Jan has been drawing and painting for more than 20 years. Early on, she
worked in different media, but by the age of 11, she was
working
primarily
in oil. Landscapes were
her subject matter of choice. The snow scene shown here is one of her
earliest paintings. As time went on, Jan dabbled in other art forms and
expanded
her repertoire to include some of them. She is
an
accomplished jewelry designer and portrait artist. Jan made the pencil
portrait of her son about 6 years ago. Her past experience
covers a broad spectrum - from miniature
painting on real feathers to room size mural painting to tattooing - yes
- really! People joke that she will paint on anything that will hold
still, but the truth is, it doesn't even have to hold still!

A lifelong love of Halloween has brought Jan to this point in her
career. When she is not creating Halloween folk art, she is busy
pursuing her interest in antique glassware. For the past 15 years, Jan
has also been an antique dealer - a trade she learned working in her
family's antique shop. This is also where the seeds of love planted in
childhood grew to a full fledged passion for Halloween. The shop was in
a spooky old Victorian house with a large porch that
they filled with cornstalks, pumpkins, gourds, hay bales, and Halloween items for
sale.
Their shop quickly became THE place to go for Halloween decorations. Jan
started painting pumpkins with spooky and funny faces for
sale on the porch. They sold left and right, and people came back year after year
just to get her painted pumpkins.
In 2003 her family closed the shop to devote their time to their internet store.
Jan began selling glassware on Ebay, but missed the fun of Halloween at the antique shop.
She decided it should be Halloween all year long, so here we are! Over the past few years,
Jan has developed a painting style all her own. She has also created many one of a kind items that have gone to wonderful new homes.
Jan thanks everyone for the opportunity to share
her Halloween passion with them. Her current and future projects include miniature paintings, a bit
of paper mache
sculpture, lamp work bead jewelry and anything else that grabs her
interest.
Keep an eye out for her anthropomorphic veggie friends - The Wicked Weeds
- They like to sneak around here and get in trouble. Also, be sure to take a peek in the gallery for a look at some of the
Halloween folk art items that have been sold in the past
